General Impressions/Permissions
![]() ★ First Impressions ♚ VISUAL: Looks like your average preppy blond teen, but slightly unhinged and far more likely to be seen carrying around auto parts and building Rube Goldberg machines ♚ FASHION: Will basically always be wearing that iconic goddamn outfit, ascot and all ♚ DEMEANOUR: Energetic, friendly, oblivious, one-track mind, obsessive, unintentionally insensitive/rude, kindhearted, desperate for approval ♚ SOUND: You've heard it before, probably. Frank Welker has officially been voicing Fred for 50 straight years, and while the voice has evolved a little over time, it's still fundamentally the same. In Welker's own words: "Basically, it's my own voice, with maybe five cups of coffee". ♚ SCENT: Probably smells faintly like motor oil? idk ♚ MENTAL INFORMATION: "My mind is a complete void!" - Fred ♚ MAGICAL INFORMATION: N/A, but his best friend's dog is a god ★ OOC ♚ BACKTAGGING: sure! life happens, i get it if it takes you a little while to reply. ♚ THREADHOPPING: Sure, as long as it's cool w/ the other person in the thread! ♚ FOURTHWALLING: Sure, but don't expect him to be too freaked out by the thought of being fictional in other universes; more likely he'll completely dismiss it as coincidence or someone confusing him for someone else. at best he'll accept its a parallel dimension thing and proceed to shove that thought in a deep corner of his mind never to be examined again ♚ PHYSICAL AFFECTION: this boy is starved for hugs and love. please give this to him ♚ PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: he's not a skilled fighter or anything, but he can hold his own! rough him up, but ask me first if you want to do any real damage IE a broken bone or worse ♚ RELATIONSHIPS: i'm not comfortable rping romantic stuff with teens beyond surface level content, ie crushes, a bit of kissing, etc. its a personal thing. i'm also just in general very wary about rping romantic stuff with people i dont know very well due to past experiences so if you have any ideas in this regard please contact me to discuss it ahead of time ★ Permissions ♚ PARENTAL/EMOTIONAL ABUSE, NEGLECT, MANIPULATION: Mystery Incorporated writers really sat down together and were like alright lads. lets just fucking ruin fred jones' life here's some fun little details about fred's family: -his entire childhood he was told his mother left him when he was a baby (with the only proof she ever existed being two copies of a photo of her, one kept in his dads office and one in their home) and he was raised entirely by his father, Mayor Fred Jones SR, who became increasingly distant and uncaring towards him as Fred grew up -Fred frequently makes comments about how men shouldnt feel emotions or care about people(and BELIEVES this, to the point where he genuinely thinks he can't be a guy anymore because he cares about people, Daphne in particular), how husbands and wives arent supposed to love each other, etc, all of which is... really concerning, and its heavily implied he believes this stuff because it's what he's learned from his dad -MANY EPISODES have fred try really hard to get his dads approval, and he very rarely gets it. the manticore episode is a good example of this because it hammers home again and again how far fred is willing to go to prove himself to his dad, and how dismissive his father is of him and his interests ["Dad, are we... bonding? Look at me! I'm shaking!" "Don't get all girly on me."] -fred mentions in one episode that he talks to the taxidermy moose head in his house a lot, because he spends a lot of time alone and Tyler(the moose) is "a good listener", which is. not a normal thing for a 17 y/o to do -at the end of season 1, it's revealed that Fred Jones Sr isn't Fred's bio dad, and instead kidnapped him as a baby from his biological parents and raised him as his own. this, and all the bombshells related to it, causes fred to freak out, break off all contact with his friends, and spend an undetermined amount of time[likely months] trying to find his birth parents, while completely alone, living alone in Fred Jones Sr's house, with his only companions being taxidermy animals and a stuffed teddy bear that he starts treating as real. early season 2 also confirms he's in therapy, though his therapist is very dismissive of him and Fred himself is extremely resistant to other people knowing he's in therapy, insisting that he's fine and normal -[this is after the canonpoint i currently play him at, but I plan to eventually update him to this point] eventually he finds his birth parents, who proceed to neglect him, then work with the main antagonist to betray him, then eventually get plastic surgery to look identical to him and an older version of daphne in order to trick the mystery gang in an elaborate plan... so basically, all his parental figures suck. he later forgives "Mayor Dad" because mayor dad technically had all the good aspects of himself locked away by the power of The Evil Entity, but that doesn't mean his kidnapper father's neglect and abuse didn't thoroughly affect him. -and then he sees all three of his parents die horribly in front of him to said evil entity ♚ STALKER TENDENCIES[?]: this requires a little elaboration. So like- various pieces of Scooby Doo media feel the need to randomly give Fred the character trait of being absurdly controlling, sometimes to the point of acting like a stalker, particularly to Daphne? And for the most part it's something that I'm just gonna ignore or heavily downplay because... I don't find it funny and instead find it uncomfortable to even consider playing out. But there's a few episodes of Mystery Incorporated where this behavior randomly crops up even though it wasn't present in previous episodes, particularly early in the second season when Daphne and Fred are broken up and Fred starts trying to win Daphne back while she's dating another guy, even reaching the point of stealing her hair and putting it on a teddy bear and treating it like her... GRANTED, this episode was while Fred was very clearly in a messed up place mentally, what with the whole "recently found out he was kidnapped as a baby, has been trying to find his birth parents for god knows how long, has been isolated from other people with no friends, living at home alone barely able to take care of himself" thing, but still. it happened ♚ IMPOSTER SYNDROME/"I WATCHED LITERALLY EVERYONE I'VE EVER KNOWN DIE AND NOW THEY'RE ALL ALIVE AGAIN AND HAVE NO MEMORY OF THIS AND I'M SUPPOSED TO ACCEPT THAT": [this is after the canonpoint i currently play him at, but I plan to eventually update him to this point] so like what the FUCK happened in the mystery inc final episode. Basically everyone Mystery Inc ever knew or loved or was vaguely acquainted with died horribly, devoured by a monstrous alien. Most of their families were eaten right in front of them, including Mayor Dad. Then the world got reset by stuff they did, and they all wake up in a universe where The Evil Entity never existed, everything is happy, everyone loves the gang, but they're very clearly living the lives of other versions of themselves who were far more successful with very different memories. Fred gets the really short end of the stick, because in this universe, he's Fred Chiles, and he now has to live as the son of two people he barely knew (and last remembers as manipulative villains who were willing to let him die) while the dad who actually raised him is just a sports coach (and also friendly and kind). He has 17 years of false memories and they're not even with the right parents, and he doesn't even get to keep his name. somehow this is a happy ending Anyway. If you would prefer to Opt Out of any of the above appearing in a thread, or out of threading with Fred at all, let me know here! |
